The Saving One Million Lives Initiative was launched by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on the 16th of October 2012. "Saving One Million Lives" is not a new health program, but rather it builds on existing policies, strategic documents and frameworks as outlined by the National Strategic Health Development Plan and Mr. President's Transformative Agenda.
It is a drive to focus on outcomes, through strengthening the execution and delivery of Nigeria's existing health services by setting clear, ambitious targets for real impact; and a simple, yet laser-focused system of performance management to achieve them. It is a new delivery mechanism, working towards real change on the ground. With this approach, Nigeria will save one million lives by 2015.
